FAQ's About Our Remot Backup Offering

  1. How do I know my data is secure?  - Our Remote Backup solution uses strong encryption via a password/encryption key that you set.  Without this password/encryption key no one has access to this data, including us.  We can see that you have data on the backup server, but it is not usable to us in any way.
  2. How does this Remote Backup work? – First we come in and do a full backup of all of your data to an external hard drive.  Next, we bring this to our server and copy it up.  From then on we backup your server every hour, 2 hours, or any increment you prefer.  This software uses bit/byte technology which brings us to our next question.
  3. What is the advantage to bit/byte backups and what is it?  Bit/Byte backup allows just the changes to a file to be backed up.  For instance:  Say you have a 150MB database file.  In a typical backup scenario, even one tiny change would require the entire 150MB to be copied over the internet.  This is not efficient.  So, what bit/byte technology does is allow just the small change to be copied over to the server, thus saving Internet bandwidth and time.
  4. What can this Remote Backup software backup? – Our Remote Backup software can backup all of your data.  SQL, Exchange, Files, etc. (i.e. Email, Databases, and files)
  5. How much is this service?  Our pricing is $99 per 20GB of data per month.  You can subscribe for any amount with a 5GB minimum.  (i.e. 5 GB would be 24.75 monthly)This software compresses your data very well, meaning that you may have 40GB of data that fits into this 20GB of “REAL” disk space.  So just because you have 150GB of data does not mean you will need 150GB of space for your remote backup.
  6. What is the retention time?  (i.e. How long can I go back to restore my data?)  We sell our service by disk space so this is completely up to you.  You can keep up to 365 days worth if you have the space to do so.  What this means is you could go back and restore a file from 3 months ago at 5:00 pm.  Or you could restore several versions with different backup dates.  The retention time is completely up to you and how much space you have setup with us.
  7. Are there any contracts? NO!
  8. Where is this storage server located? This server is located at www.Profitability.net at 312 Plum Street in downtown Cincinnati.  This is a top notch facility with backup power, proper cooling, and secured access.
  9. Can I forgo using tapes?  Yes you can.  Although we recommend you keep tape backups as well, you certainly can use this as your sole backup solution.
  10. Is this HIPAA and SOX compliant?  Yes this software is compliant with both regulations.
  11. Who manages this?  We can take care of managing this backup process for you, or, for some of you do-it-yourself’ers, you can have complete control over your backup and restores.  Either way works for us.
